Trial status: Still enrolling at Johns Hopkins University and the University of Kansas.  Enrollment is complete at the University of California-San Diego.

Trial name: Memantine in Huntington's

FDA phase: Phase III for Huntington's.  This drug is already FDA-approved for Alzheimer's.

Sponsor: Forest Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

Trial design: Seventy-two people altogether will participate in a 6-month trial.  During the first 3 months, half will receive memantine (10 mg, twice daily), and the other half placebo.  During the remaining 3 months, all will receive memantine.

Outcome measures: Outcome measures compare short-term memory and cognition before and after treatment.

Location: University of California-San Diego, University of Kansas, and Johns Hopkins University.
